Description
This yellow brick two-storey house gives an example of the amount of detail that went into Victorian houses in the late 19th century. Yellow brick houses can be seen throughout St. Marys, and this particular example is grand in its appearance. The house, built in the early 1880s, features bay windows which can be seen on the right corner of the house façade as well as on the left side of the house. Note the ornamental brackets under the roof, and the large veranda and upper balcony, supported by tall columns. The balcony was removed after this photo was taken; however the veranda has been restored to the front of the home. The house originally had a limestone wall surrounding the property. A reconstruction project of the retaining wall took place in April of 2001.

Numerous St. Marys residents and families have owned the property the house is located on and/or resided in this house, including Daniel S. Rupert, a local dentist and politician, the Harris family, and many others.

Hard copies of this image can be accessed at the St. Marys Museum & Archives.
