- This modest sized stone cottage is an example of the early house styles built in St. Marys. This type of course textured stone exterior can be seen on several other early houses throughout town. Note the transom window above the door, and the narrow steps leading up to the entry. This cottage was built in close proximity to the street, a sign that the structure was an early build. The irregular and unfinished quoins and lintels above the windows are another sign of its early construction. The front portion of the house dates to the 1850s. The house was built for Gilbert McIntosh, a woolen miller, whose mill was located west of the cottage. The mill is no longer standing. The back wing addition was built in 1860. The cottage is still standing today, with some minor changes and restoration such as updated windows, added shutters, refinishing of the stone exterior, the removal of the transom window, and the restoration of the stone retaining wall.
