- Description
- A photo showing a steam-powered road roller that has been unloaded from the back of a railway car in St. Marys in 1903. Local photographer Milton Reesor was present at the time of unloading and managed to capture the event in a set of two photographs. The roller was unloaded at the Grand Trunk Railway depot at the Elizabeth Street Switch.
In the early 1900s, a large project was planned for the reconstruction of major streets in St. Marys and the replacement of the Park Street Bridge. In May of 1903, town council accepted a tender from the Sawyer-Massey Company for an English-built Aveling & Porter Patent compound steam roller which was purchased for municipal use. Here the steam roller can be seen with a crowd surrounding it. - Notes
