Description
This photograph was taken by local photographers Carter & Isaac in the early 20th century. The photo features a family of five posing in front of their frame house in the country. A mother and father appear to be sitting in chairs in front of the home, both are well-dressed with the man wearing a good suit and tie and the woman wearing a dress with a high white collar and bow. Two young girls stand between the man and woman; the older girl is wearing a plaid dress while the younger girl has on a light dress with a lace collar. A boy is standing to the far left with a dog sitting nearby. The boy has a straw boater style hat in his hand and is wearing a sweater.

The windows of the shiplap house are open, revealing lace curtains inside. A brick addition has been added to the back of the house, which could have possibly been used as a summer kitchen. A wooden fence can be seen behind the house to the left and a barn stands in the background.

The Carter & Isaac company specialized in outdoor photography, focusing on houses and farmsteads in rural Ontario. William Webster Carter was the photographer and traveled by horse and buggy through the countryside with his camera and other equipment. His wife, Bertha Isaac, processed the glass negatives and made prints for sale. Carter & Isaac took photographs in the St. Marys area between 1902 and 1906 and briefly again in 1908.

This image is a contact print made from the original glass plate negative. The contact identifier number can be seen in the bottom corner of the photograph where Carter & Isaac have scratched it into the emulsion. The number is 1092. This photo is part of a collection of photos which appear to have been taken in the northern part of Oxford County.
