- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. It shows a view of the London Bridge over Trout Creek looking to the east. In 1857, the Grand Trunk Railway planned to come to St. Marys, featuring a primary line to Sarnia and a secondary line to London. The contracts for the construction of these bridges was awarded to George Weir and Donald Robinson, and the London Bridge opened for traffic in mid-1858. Although the Sarnia Bridge's last train crossed in 1989, the London Bridge is still in use today for freight and the VIA Rail Toronto-Sarnia line.
