- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. Built in 1899, the Water Tower served the Town for 90 years as the main tower until 1989, when a new tower was commissioned. The exceptionally preserved old tower remains an important symbol of the community, and was designated as a historical site in 1978. Flying at the top of the Water Tower is the British Red Ensign, which was the basis for the Canadian Red Ensign, the de facto national flag created in 1867.
This postcard is used and dated March 22, 1912. - Notes
