Description
This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. It depicts a crane hoisting stone from the ground, being watched by a man in the background. He is standing on a flatbed rail car with "Grand Trunk" written on the side. The Horseshoe Quarry predated the cement company in St. Marys. The quarry provided stone for cement making before the company began to quarry its own stone. The quarry was located at the far south end of Church Street and was close enough to the rail line that the Grand Trunk ran a short spur to the quarry to load stone.
