- Description
- An article written by local columnist Dorothy Eedy titled "How Meech Lake got its name". This article is about Meech Lake in Gatineau Park, Québec, Canada. Eedy tells the story of how the lake got its name. Meech Lake was in the news during this time as it was the meeting place for a conference held by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1987. The Meech Lake Accord was created as a result of this meeting - an agreement between the federal and provincial governments to make amendments to the Canadian Constitution in order to strengthen provincial powers and officially recognise Québec as a "distinct society". However, the Accord was never put into effect.
Recipes included in the article: "Picnic Meat Loaf" and "Five Minute Fudge".
