Description
This photo depicts two men collecting ice blocks above Goldie's Mill in Guelph, Ontario in January 1919. Before mechanical refrigerators, cutting ice was a common winter chore. Ice would be stored in an insulated ice house until warmer weather arrived, when it would be sold and used for cold food storage.
