- Description
- This is a photograph of the North Ward School looking northwest from Wellington Street North. Opened in January 1875, the decision to build a school was under much deliberation, but eventually allowed as a response to population growth indicated in the 1872 Census. The first addition to the school, completed in 1886, is seen on the right in distinct yellow brick. Further additions took place in 1909, 1914, 1924, and 1938. After the opening of a new high school in 1954, the North Ward School was then used as a public school shared with the Army, St. Marys Band, and Maxwell's. Renamed Arthur Meighen Public School in June 1984, it was finally closed in 2011 and demolished in 2016.
