- This is a photograph of two people standing in the street during the flood of 1947. They are standing in front of a row of buildings on the southwest corner of Water and Jones Street.
The flood of 1947 was a significant and destructive event in St. Marys history. Not only did businesses on Water Street flood, but the flood reached up Queen Street, causing damage to businesses all the way up to Wellington Street. The bridge over the Thames River at Park Street was also destroyed as a result of the flood, and was not replaced until 1971 when the UTRCA began to implement flood management policies. - Notes
