Description
Two large Saxony-style spinning wheels (around 38-40” width). No identification markers on the wheels to indicate where, when or who manufactured them. These wheels were spun by hand; there are no pedals to keep the wheel turning at a constant rate.
Notes
Spinning wheels made it easier to stretch and twist raw fibres into thread or yarn, which would then be used on a loom to create clothing items. The wheel provided much more control in place of hand spinning. These particular spinning wheels were mainly used to spin sheep wool into yarn.
