Description
- Dark blue ceramic ovoid pitcher with vertical ribbing; shallow spout and handle with thumb-rest; slight blue-white marbling on handle and mouth, minor glaze pops near base; shallow foot-ring with cluster stilt marks visible; some gold trimming visible around rim, but most has worn off with use.
- Date unknown
- Presented to the Rev. Josiah Henson by John Lucas, Hermit of Hertfordshire
- From the estate of Miss Jean Tallach, Dresden, Ontario.
- Jean Tallach (b. 1889) was the daughter of Rev. Thomas Tallach, a Presbyterian minister in Dresden. Rev. Tallach and Rev. Henson were colleagues and friends, and Rev. Henson either bequeathed or sold some personal artifacts to Rev. Tallach. Rev. Tallach passed away in 1890, and the Henson artifacts passed into the keeping of his wife, Julia, and daughter, Jean. Julia later married James McKinlay of Ridgetown, but had no other children. Jean remained unmarried and at her death, bequeathed the Henson artifacts to the Kent Historical Society, which later transferred them to the collection of the Chatham-Kent Museum.
