- black and white twisted cord (L-85.6cm D-.5cm) with loop at one end; gold clip at other end attached to silver coloured cylindrical whistle (L-8.4cm D-1.7cm).
- stamped on whistle: "MADE In/ ENGLAND"
- Date 1942
- Sydney A. Kemsley enlisted for active service in 1943, having previously trained with the 2nd Battalion, Kent Regiment. He was sent to England and later fought and was wounded in France while serving with the Royal Suffolk Regiment. Following convalescence in Nottingham, England, Kemsley was promoted to Captain and was sent to Ireland as a training officer. He was discharged and returned to Chatham in March 1946.
