- (A) - black painted metal disk; large hole in centre with threaded opening, metal mesh covers the opening below the threading; black painted metal arm extends from side of disk with vertical tube opening near end and flat metal scew in end; metal tube protrudes from opposite side on bottom of disk; "L" shaped metal plate attached to bottom of disk with hole near one edge that corresponds with a hole in the bottom of the disk; metal arm extends from plate and a pivotting metal rod fits through the arm and ends at the bent part of the plate; a metal arm on the rod holds a threaded metal rod that extends into the hole; at the opposite end of the rod, an arm protrudes with a curved,grooved end, the grooves fit into a gear that fits on another arm and rod that is parallel to the first; a metal disk is screwed to the other side of the bent part of the plate, this disk is painted white and has graduated markings from 0 -50, also reads: "PATENTED/Aug 26, 1913/Central Scientific Co./Chicago,U.S.A."; an arm mounted in the centre has a crescent moon on one end and a rounded arrow on the other (L-15.4cm, W-9cm, H-8.8cm)
(B) - funnel shaped glass tube with brass cuff; white residue between the tube and the cuff; bottom of cuff is threaded; black and gold sticker on side of tube reads: "GENUINE/HAND MADE/Cambridge/MADE IN U.S.A."
(C) - glass tube, diameter increases near bottom, top of tube is broken off, brass cuff attached to bottom, end of cuff is threaded (D-7.7cm, H-17.5cm)
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
