- Description
- This is an image of the Hotel Balmoral in St. Joseph as seen from the street corner. And arched sign can be seen near the top of the image that reads "BALMORAL" and it appears to be over the entranceway.
The Balmoral Hotel was a three-story hotel at the corner of Highway 21 and 84. It was constructed from 1897 to 1907, meaning it was still under construction when this image was taken. Due to unfortunate circumstances including World War I, the hotel never opened and was demolished in 1920 without ever having a guest.
This photo belongs to the Reesor Collection, which is a group of photos taken by Milton W. Reesor, a local amateur photographer. He took many photos of friends, family, animals, outdoor activities, machinery, the railway, and more in and around St. Marys from 1898-1910. - Inscriptions
