F. Edward Graf (1826-1904) emigrated from Prussia with his father and siblings, landing in New York in 1843. He soon married and crossed the border into Southern Ontario. Here, Graf established a weaving career and settled in Gasline, what is now Port Colborne, Ontario. Edward Graf set himself up as a local weaver, providing many textile goods for the surrounding communities. Some of his most lasting items were his jacquard coverlets, which were treasured as heirlooms by the families who owned them.
