Description
A beige and navy blue jacquard coverlet woven circa 1845-48 by F. Edward Graf. The pattern is an eight point floral starburst with a floral medallion border. The warp (vertical threads) is beige cotton, the weft (horizontal threads) is navy blue wool. The image shows the front and back of the coverlet and the intricate pattern is visible on both sides. There is no fringe and no cartouche. There is a visible seam down the middle indicating this coverlet was made in two pieces and stitched together. Later the Grafs would acquire a larger loom and coverlets could be made in one piece.
