Description
A white red and green jacquard coverlet woven in 1852 by F. Edward Graf. The pattern is an unusual stars and hearts wreath with birds and bush border. The warp (vertical threads) is white cotton, the weft (horizontal threads) is green and red wool. The image shows the front and back of the coverlet and the intricate pattern is visible on both sides. There is no fringe. The cartouche reads "MK / 1852". There is a visible seam down the middle indicating this coverlet was made in two pieces and stitched together. Later the Grafs would acquire a larger loom and coverlets could be made in one piece.
