Ritchie McVean Grainger (Sept 19, 1912 - July 6, 1975) was born in Chatham, the son of Frederick Grainger and Clara Ritchie. On Dec. 12, 1931 he married Doris Ada Nicholls (Jan 17, 1913 - Feb 26, 1976) and they had one daughetr, Patricia Ann (July 9, 1932 - June 7, 2002). Ritchie worked at International Harvester for 31 years, retiring in 1973. He served with the Canadian Army Infantry Corps during WWII and was awarded the Military Cross while commanding 17 Platoon, North Nova Scotia Highlanders on Sept. 18, 1944 at Chemin Vert. He was a member of St. Andrew's Church, the Officer's Mess at the Armouries, and Branch 28 and Branch 431 Royal Canadian Legion. He is buried in Ward I Lot 207 Maple Leaf Cemetery.
