- A black and white exterior photograph of Victoria & Grey Trust, a business that was once located at 131 Queen Street East in St. Marys.
The first building on the site was built in 1859, known as the Empire Hotel. In 1881, this building was demolished, so in 1882, Robert Box constructed a new building on the site. This building served both retail and residence purposes until 1963 when it was demolished. That same year, Rounthwaite and Associates of Toronto constructed a new building for the then owners, Victoria & Grey Trust Co.
The British Mortgage & Trust Company was established in 1877 and acquired by Victoria & Grey Trust Company in 1964. In 1984, the National Trust Company acquired Victoria & Grey Trust Company and subsequently in 1997, National Trust Company was acquired by Scotiabank. Scotiabank has been at 131 Queen Street East ever since. - Notes
