- Description
- A photograph taken on June 10, 1972, showing the construction of an addition onto Campbell Soup Factory, located West of St. Marys.
The factory was built in 1969 by Campbell Soup Company and was expanded in 1972. The plant had two sides: a blue side and a white side, separating raw and cooked areas of the facility. Campbells processed mainly fowl and broilers, but occasionally did process turkeys. In 1993 the plant was purchased by Horizon Poultry and became HACCP certified, the first plant in Ontario to gain this accreditation. In 1995, the IQF freezers #1 and #2 were installed. In 2001, the facility officially changed its name to Schneiders foods, a partner with Horizon Poultry. When Maple Leaf acquired Schneiders brand in 2005, the plant changed hands again, and has operated as Maple Leaf until its closure in 2023. - Date of Original
