The wording of the description of the photo is a bit awkward. The subject of the photo is the roundhouse and turntable. The roundhouse housed locomotives, like the one sitting on the turntable in the foreground, between assignments where they were serviced and readied for their run. The turntable was used to turn the locomotive and to line it up with the correct stall in the roundhouse. A train consists of a locomotive, cars and in the case of a freight train a caboose in the era of the photograph. So that is a freight car that is sitting to the right of the locomotive. Not a 'train'.
