Description

Two group photos.

2124phc_a shows a group sitting on a porch eating watermelon. Far left is Tena Constable (Whaley) and 2nd from left is William McConnell.

2124phc_b has a group of people standing on a porch with a couple of children (and another woman) sitting on the porch. Third from left is William McConnell and fourth from left is Tena Constable (Whaley).

William McConnell was a St. Marys Barber who enlisted in the 71st Battalion. He was the first local casualty in World War I (died in action in 1916). The McConnell Club was therefore named in his honour.

[Tena Constable (later Whaley), identified in these photos was his girlfriend.]
