The young man holding the spike holder over his shoulder third from left standing may be my GGrandfather Michael McDonnell. He was born in Mololougha, County Clair, Ireland on 15 November 1857 and came with his parents Simon McDonald and Mary Collins in 1865. They spelled their name McDonald in St. Marys and lived in "the hollow." He would be the right age at the time of this photo. Using facial recognition software on the higher definition version, I have matched the face to photos taken of him at age sixty with high probability. Mike McDonnell continued his railroad career, leaving St. Marys for Minnesota about 1880, and worked all his life for the Chicago Great Western, eventually becoming a roadmaster.
