- Description
- This is a black and white photo which features the Presbyterian Church built in Thessalon. The church is visible on the left hand portion of the photograph. It was built atop of a large rock outcrop. In the background of the photo, the Crane Lumber Mill can be seen near the waterfront.
A large boat is docked at the mill dock, loading. A few other unidentified buildings are also visible in this photograph. - Notes
- Opening services for this church were held on January 3, 1889, by Reverend Professor Grigg.
Around 1900 the Methodist congregation decided they needed a larger church and construction was begun at a site on Main Street.
In approximately 1917, after both the Methodists and the Presbyterians had both built large churches, local industry fell on hard times and the two congregations decided to worship together in the Presbyterian Church.
