- This is a black and white photo of the west side of Main Street during the fire that originated at Crest Hardware on December 6, 1977.
A group of firemen can be seen attempting to control the flames and the Stedman's store sign is visible to the right of the photo. The fire was believed to have been caused by an explosion.
- Notes
- Two explosions were heard and two people were sent to the hospital during the battling of this fire. In addition to the total loss of Crest Hardware, Mae's Hairdressing, The Flower Pot and North Shore Produce were also burned out. There was also damage caused to several other businesses along the block due to the explosions and burning debris.
