GREENWOOD, Harold William (Bill) - Passed on Wednesday May 11, 2011 at his residence in Rainy River Health Centre, Rainy River, ON. He was born on June 14, 1932 to Harold and Ethel Greenwood (nee Hadden). He was raised and lived his adult life in Woodstock with the exception of two separate one-year periods when he resided in Rainy River, ON to have care provided by his daughter Betty Ann and family. He was married in Norwich, ON to Marlene Shirley Bateman on Jan. 19, 1962. Together they had one daughter, Betty Ann (Lucke) and raised Marlene’s daughter, Nancy Louise (Bateman). Marlene succumbed to cancer in 1984. In 1987 he married Marjory Elizabeth Sawyer from whom he was divorced in 1991. He completed his education to grade 7, later assisted at his parent’s business "Central Fish and Chips" store on Dundas Street and worked on the assembly line at Thomas Built Busses in Woodstock, ON until his retirement. During his lifetime Bill enjoyed bowling, dancing, hockey, the Canadian Legion, coin collecting and maintained a high regard for the Queen. He wrote poetry and excelled in portrait sketching, having his portraits of the Right Honourable John Diefenbaker and Right Honourable Lester B. Pearson autographed and proudly displayed in his room. He is most remembered for his kind salutations to persons of acquaintance. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Harold ("Scotty", born in Manchester, England) and Ethel Greenwood (Hadden), born in Birmingham, England); brother Gerald Robert (Bob) and infant brother John; uncle, Thomas Hadden and grandson, Ardon Mathew. He is survived by his daughter Betty Ann, son-in-law Ansgar and grandchildren Elisa, Benjamin and Abigail of Stratton, ON; his step daughters Nancy Bateman of Woodstock, and Lorraine Ducker of Toronto; his brothers-in-law Grant Bateman of Ingersoll and Dwight Bateman of Campbellville; nephew John Greenwood and niece Brenda German both of Victoria Island, B.C; nieces Cheryl Belyea of Cambridge, Debbie Jackolew (Larry) and Mary Simpson (Brent) of Woodstock. Interment and memorial service will take place in Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery , Woodstock, Ont, at a later date.
