THOMPSON, Richard James, D.D.S. - December 1, 1930 - June 12, 2012 Beloved husband of Anne (Kimball) Thompson for 56 plus years. A man of grace, wit and charm; he was solid in his perception of the world. He was truly the patriarch of our family and highly respected and loved by his children - Richard Thompson and his wife Shelley of Delhi, Patricia Green and her husband Tom of Clarkson, and Reid Thompson and his wife Lianne of Sweaburg; and his grandchildren – Michael and Patrick Thompson, Jason and Jamie Green, Paul, Sarah-Anne, Rebecca and Alex Thompson. Dr. Thompson was born in St. Thomas; the only son of Richard Green Thompson and Muriel Thompson. He graduated from the University of Toronto in dentistry in 1954 and married Anne Kimball, his partner for life in 1955. He was a well respected member of his profession practicing dentistry in Woodstock for 40 years before retiring. He gave of his time and expertise willingly to his community acting as a member/chair of Woodstock Planning Board for 6 years, member/chair of Zoning Committee of Adjustments, member/chair of Woodstock Traffic Committee, chair of the Downtown Redevelopment Committee, President of the Oxford County Canadian Club and Provincial Representative, Woodstock Board of Health. Jim was a member of the Executive Council of the Ontario Dental Association and Executive Liason to the Ontario Medical Association. He was also a lifetime member of Chalmers United Church and Craigowan Golf and Country Club. Cremation has taken place and, typical of Jim, he has requested no funeral or memorial service be held. His spiritual home was the family cottage on Lake Huron where the family will gather to spread his ashes and celebrate the life of a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was our heart, our love, our home. Memorial donations may be made to the Woodstock Hospital Foundation or the Cancer Research Society through the SMITH-LEROY FUNERAL HOME , Woodstock, (519) 537-3611. www.smithleroy.com
