TOMLINSON, Claire Beatrice (nee Campbell) - Claire passed away quietly under a clear, moonlit sky, just after midnight on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. She lived a life of love, service and adventure that will endure in the hearts of family and friends. Born in Toronto on July 10, 1932 Claire lived a city girl's life. With friends she traveled by streetcar to enjoy hockey games at Maple Leaf Gardens, exhibitions at the ROM and watched ticker tape parades along Bay Street from the Old City Hall. Claire entered the nursing profession and dedicated herself at Toronto General Hospital, later becoming a nursing instructor. It was at Toronto General where Claire met the love of her life Doug. After moving to Ingersoll in 1958 Claire and Doug raised four children, Bruce (Donna), David (Peggy), Christine (Graham), and Anne. A life of adventure ensued as the family lived for two years in Grenada and many lasting friendships were forged as Claire and Doug lived and worked in China, Russia, The Czech Republic and Peru. The hard work and dedication with which Claire pursued her many charitable works in her community showed her compassionate nature. Her passion for art and her quilting and fiber creations were enabled by Claire's involvement in the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre, a very special place in Claire’s heart. A gentle and supportive grandmother, Claire will be missed and lovingly remembered by Michelle, Julia, Graham Andrew, Michael, Alexandra, Cameron, Patrick, Jeffery, Abby and Nicholas. In lieu of sending flowers the family requests that charitable donations be made to: The Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre, 125 Centennial Lane, Ingersoll, or the residential hospice VON Sakura House at R.R.#5, 715180 County Rd. #4, Woodstock. Claire's family will host a gathering on Sunday, March 3, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre for friends and family to be together.
