BENDER, Douglas Ross "Doug" - Unexpectedly on April 3, 2013 at 67 years of age at St. Mary's General Hospital. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 12 years, Ann Sloan, and children Nicola Sloan Clarke (Ian Warnock), Paula Sloan (Charlie Webb) and Michael Sloan (Tommasina Conte). Doug was a warm and wonderful grandfather to Ben, Meredith, Annabel, Georgia, Liam, Kayle, Madeleine, Lauren and Nolan. He is survived by siblings Lloyd (Phyllis) Bender, Don (Mary Ann) Bender, Shirley Richardson, Harold (Terry) Bender and Patricia (Don) DelBrocco, sisters-in-law Margaret McHale and Maeve Maher and by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Violet Bender, brother Robert and brothers-in-law Ken Richardson and Martin McHale. Doug grew up in Dashwood, Ontario, and worked most of his career as a mechanical designer at Raymond Industrial. He was an active community volunteer who served as a Mason and Shriner at the King Hiram, Ingersoll, for many years. Doug married for the first time at 55 years of age and began a new chapter in his life that included travel, gardening, curling and most of all spending time with grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the BROCK & VISSER FUNERAL HOME , 845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock, on Tuesday April 9, 2013 from 7-9 pm where a celebration of Doug's life will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 1:30 pm with Rev. Lloyd Bennett officiating. Cremation has taken place. Doug decided to have tissue and organs donated and will benefit three people through the Trillium Gift of Life Network. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Ingamo Homes, Woodstock. Online condolences can be made at www.brockandvisser.com A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm under the auspices of King Hiram Masonic Lodge #37 Ingersoll A.F. & A.M. "He was a kind and gentle soul. . .we were blessed to have him in our lives"
