DUNNE, Father James Patrick - CSSp - 1928 - 2013 - Father James "Jimmy" Dunne of the Spiritan Province of TransCanada died peacefully on the morning of May 5th, 2013. At the time Father Jimmy was a resident at Laval House Community in Toronto. Jimmy is survived by seven brothers and sisters: Maureen Murphy, Patrick, Connie and Sean (Ireland); Olive Tonkin and Cecilia Grasgow (England) and Brendan (Australia) along with numerous nieces and nephews. Father Jimmy was born August 10, 1928 in Rathangan, County Kildare, Ireland. He made his first profession as a Spiritan on September 8, 1949 and was ordained to the priesthood on July 14, 1957. During his 56 years as a priest he served in a variety of pastoral works in Nigeria, the United States and Canada. First assigned to Nigeria, Father Jimmy spent ten years as a missionary among the Igbo people. From Nigeria he was assigned to the United States where he served in Niagara Falls, New York and Covington, Kentucky. In July 1971 Jimmy came to Canada and was assigned to Holy Rosary Parish in Guelph until 1977 when he was appointed Pastor of St. Joseph's Parish, Highland Creek. In August of 1983 Father Jimmy moved to his much beloved St. Rita's Parish in Woodstock. Fifteen years later in 1998 he semi-retired to become "priest in residence" at St. Bernard's Parish in Waterford, Ontario where he stayed until his retirement to the Laval Community, Toronto in March of 2011. Father Dunne was known for his gentle kindness, his welcoming way, his prayerful simplicity of life and his devotion to the Manchester United Football team! He will be greatly missed by his Spiritan confreres, family and friends. Visitation at PAUL O'CONNOR FUNERAL HOME 1939 Lawrence Ave. East, Scarborough, ON M1R 2Y8 on Monday, May 13th, 2013, 2:00pm - 5:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm with Vigil Service at 8:00pm. Funeral Mass Tuesday, May 14th, 2013, 11:00am St. Joseph's Parish, 200 Morrish Road, Toronto M1C 1E8 The Mass will be followed by a light reception in the church hall. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Toronto at 2:30pm
