TAPLAY, Elizabeth "Betty" Evans - 85, of Woodstock, Ontario. Our precious mother was reunited with loved ones on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Sakura House surrounded by her family. She is survived by her adoring husband and best friend of 68 wonderful years, Jack, who now resides at Parkwood Veteran's Hospital in London. A devoted and proud mother, her precious heart of gold will be forever missed by her loving children, Carol (John Wylie), Ray (Pat), Lynn and Keith (Dawn). Her grandchildren, David (Teresa) and John (Carrie), were the beneficiaries of her unconditional love and will miss their Grandma. She will be fondly remembered by six great grandchildren, Connor, Nathan, Breanna, Chloe, Morgan and Charlotte. Mom was born in Clydebank, Scotland on May 12, 1928, the only child of Margaret and Thomas Hunter. Betty married Jack (John) Taplay on September 29, 1945 in Clydebank, Scotland and as a war bride followed him to Woodstock in 1946. Mom and Dad were fortunate to retire in 1975 where they spent 25 winters in Florida making many lifelong friends. They loved to cruise, have travelled coast to coast in Canada and the US and returned to Britain to visit family. Mom relished her position as a volunteer at the old Woodstock General Hospital, Physiotherapy Department for over 15 years. She also loved to knit booties and hats for premature babies, playing cards with her friends, gardening, reading and spending time with her family. Friends and relatives are invited to share memories at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME , 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Tributes and expressions may be sent online at www.smithleroy.com. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date. In kindness and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to Sakura House Woodstock, where she was supported by very "Caring Angels" or the Woodstock Hospital Foundation. "If by chance you wish to remember me, do so with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do these things for me, I will live forever."
