STANLEY, Connie - It is with a sense of sadness and loss that we, the family, announce the passing of Connie Stanley, age 93. She passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Riverside Glen in Guelph. Connie was predeceased by her husband Harold (1980). She was the dear mother of Janet, Brian and Jackie and the proud Nanny to Stephanie and Jenny. Connie was the dear sister to John Lyon, his wife Valerie and their family and to Jacqueline McLaughlin (predeceased 2008) and her husband Colin, all in England. Connie and Harold embarked on a journey from England to start their family in Canada in 1947. They settled in Scarborough and later moved to Woodstock in 1962. Both Connie and Harold became active members of St. David's United Church, Woodstock, where she later worked as church secretary and was an active member of the U.C.W. Connie enjoyed tending to her beautiful garden, was an avid piano player, sewer and knitter and was a member of the Euchre Club. Everyone enjoyed Connie playing her piano in Guelph, and especially at Christmas. She continued to play regularly, right up until the last few months. Volunteer work was an important part of Connie's life - at Lyndhurst Lodge in Toronto, at the Woodstock General Hospital Gift Shop, at Telecare, Woodstock and she would play the piano at Woodingford Lodge, Woodstock. Connie also enjoyed summers at Commanda Lake and then, eventually travelling south with her daughters and taking bus tours with friends. Connie will be warmly remembered for kindness and for being a very sweet lady to everyone whose life she touched. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderfully kind and caring staff at Riverside Glen for their outstanding and compassionate care. Connie's family welcomes you to a service to celebrate her life and to share memories at St. David's United Church, 190 Springbank Ave. N., Woodstock, on Thursday, June 19th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Oxford Memorial Gardens, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Woodstock General Hospital.
