MOWAT, Angus Alexander - Passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Mary Helen Mowat (nee McClelland) for 56 years. Dearly loved father of Barbara Fox and her husband Charlie of Stratford, Ann Harwood and her husband Bill of Winnipeg, Janet Harris and her husband Paul of Windsor, Robert Mowat and his wife Theresa of Thamesford and the late Kathryn Mary. Angus will be missed by his grandchildren Jay Harris (Bree-Ann), Andrew Harris (Socheata), Todd Harwood (Nicole), Colleen Leflour (Wayne), Oliver Fox, Monica Stirton (Andrew), Jacob Mowat and Elijah Mowat and five great-grandchildren. Angus was the much loved brother of Alan Mowat of Picton and Jane Martin and her husband Bill of Toronto. Also survived by his brother-in-law Dr. Bill McClelland (Marilyn) and sister-in-law Mabel Mowat as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his special friend Emma McCready, sister Helen Wood and husband Bud, brother Doug Mowat, sister-in-law Jennie Mowat and his McClelland sisters-in-law and their husbands. Angus was employed for many years with Canada Permanent Trust. He considered it a privilege to serve his community with many organizations including the Rotary Club, Junior Achievement, Woodstock Chamber of Commerce, Woodstock General Hospital and Probus. He lived the Rotary motto “service above self” and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship. Angus was proud to live his faith in the community as a committed Anglican, receiving the Bishops Award of Excellence in 2011. During WWII he proudly served his country in the Canadian Air Force in Britain and Africa. Angus loved life until the end and got tremendous joy from organizing the next social outing. He was a life long Blue Jays fan. His greatest joy and commitment was to his family, his children and his grandchildren. He proudly followed their every accomplishment. He will be dearly missed by family and many friends. Special thanks from the family for the exemplary care provided by staff at Oxford Gardens and to the nurses at Woodstock Hospital, and the many personal caregivers over the past several years. Their compassion and kindness exemplify the best in people. Friends are invited to meet with the family at the BROCK AND VISSER FUNERAL HOME , 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Monday February 9, 2015 from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 11:00am at The Church of the Epiphany, 560 Dundas Street, Woodstock with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Hendry officiating. Spring interment at the Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Oxford Centre, Ontario. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to the Woodstock Hospital Foundation, Scleroderma Society of Canada or Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund and would be appreciated by the family.
