Buck, Betty June (Died)

BUCK, Betty June (nee Kerr) - Passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 15 at Woodstock General Hospital. Betty is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years Paul Fetterly Buck. Also predeceased by her brothers John Kerr, Robert Kerr and Bruce Kerr. Betty is survived by her children Roberta Savage (Harry Savage), Leah Buck (Peg Town) and Bradford Buck (Gina McCormick) and her grandchildren Gabriel Savage and Emily Savage. Betty was born in Copper Cliff, Ontario and spent her first 12 years there making friends that would last her entire lifetime. Her family moved to Manitoulin Island where she completed her high school education at LHS before moving to Toronto, a city which she loved, to earn her degree from Ryerson in Interior Design. She thoroughly enjoyed her career as the Design and Colour consultant with Crown Wallpaper Company and worked in both Toronto and Montreal. It was in Toronto where she met and, by her own admission, reluctantly dated Paul Buck. We're very glad she did. They were married in 1958 and in 1969 made the move to Woodstock. People always thought Betty was taller than she actually was. That was because she carried herself with grace and beauty even when she found herself in less than graceful or beautiful circumstances. She was a stickler for proper manners and social convention but also loved a bit of chaos, and saw the value in the unexpected gifts that come with leaving things to chance. She could be ready to go anywhere in twenty minutes and prided herself on that fact. She always had a makeup kit fully stocked and tucked in a suitcase so if an opportunity for travel or adventure arose she was ready. She taught her three children to always pack a lunch and take a sweater. Betty was a skilled seamstress, a voracious reader, loved to garden and took great delight in spoiling her grandchildren. Betty was a lefty who loved the Queen. The organizations she volunteered for reflected her personal commitment to literacy and social justice. She was a longstanding member of IODE, a teaching assistant for students with learning disabilities at Broadway School, and she volunteered for the YWCA, the Friends of the Library, and the Woodstock Hospital Auxiliary. Friends will be received at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME , 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 6-8 pm. Funeral service in the chapel on Thursday at 11:00 am.
