McCLURE, Donald Douglas, BA, BD - April 9, 1932 - November 17, 2018 Reverend Donald McClure, aged 86, passed into his saviour’s glory with his family at his side following complications from a stroke he suffered in September. Don was born the second of nine children in the family home in Elderslie Township, adjacent to Chesley, Ontario. After graduating high-school in Chesley, he attended North Bay Normal School to earn his teaching credential and began teaching at a one room schoolhouse in Kinghurst, Sullivan Township, Grey County. He went on to teach in Bancroft, Chesley and Thunder Bay, Ontario. In parallel with his teaching, Donald earned a Bachelor of Arts from Waterloo Lutheran (now Wilfred Laurier) University and later a Bachelor of Divinity at Westminster Theological Seminary. He was ordained to the Gospel ministry in 1970 and served the Free Church of Scotland congregation in Thunder Bay. Donald and Shirley were married in 1957 and had a long and happy marriage. In retirement, they devoted themselves to elder-care for their parents, genealogy and historical societies, horticulture, woodworking and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Donald suffered cancer in 1984 following which he was given a life expectancy of seven years. We are so thankful the Lord provided many more than that. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Donalda McClure, sisters Jean and Liz, brothers Bill and Malcolm (in infancy), son Andrew and grandson Aaryn. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; daughter Donna (Jim), granddaughter, Erika, great-granddaughter Malina; son Ian (Kirsten), grandchildren Tim, Braelyn and Emily; daughter Lois Ann (Kendell), granddaughter Kara; and daughter Catherine (Dan), along with brothers Dave, Jim (Betsy), Scott (Carole), sister Jessie (Peter) deBaie, brother-in-law George, sister-in-law Faye and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family at the BROCK AND VISSER FUNERAL HOME , 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 from 6 to 8pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Bethel United Reformed Church, 862 Alice Street, Woodstock, with Rev. James Sinke officiating. Spring interment will be at family plot in the Chesley Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy and remembrance, donations in lieu of flowers, would be gratefully received in his memory for Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society, or Rev. Bill Green, Missionary to Costa Rica (c/o Bethel United Reformed Church, Woodstock). Personal online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com Isaiah 43:1-3 “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Saviour”
