Moyer, Tyler Dennis (Died)

It is with devasted hearts we say goodbye to Tyler Dennis Moyer of Woodstock Ontario. He passed suddenly near Thunder Bay Ontario on October 21, 2020 at the age of 27. Tyler's years were packed with more experiences, adventures and accomplishments than most people achieve in a full lifetime.

Tyler was the Grade Eight Valedictorian at St. Michael's Elementary School, then Spirit Minister at Woodstock Collegiate Institute. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and intelligence (especially during his morning video announcements) and his musical interludes at the coffee house. He loved playing minor hockey and soccer and played with passion, grit and determination.

Tyler attended the University of Guelph to study Political Science. He took a few years off to try his hand in sales, and lived in Montreal with a close and special friend for a year. The following year his adventure continued with a move to St. John's to attend Memorial University Newfoundland. He graduated and achieved an Honours Degree in Political Science and Law in Society. During those years, Tyler hiked and camped loving the East Coast landscape as well as the city. Tyler played his guitar and sang on campus during lunch at the student cafeteria, and worked downtown at Mustang Sally's. His proudest accomplishment was joining a band called "The Mighty Rovers" and playing at local bars. Tyler and his band were so tightly knit and called each other Brothers. The Mighty Rovers were invited to the East Coast Music Awards during the Summer of 2020 however it was cancelled due to COVID. The year after he graduated, Tyler travelled to Peru for an epic 3 weeks of hiking, climbing and camping with his girlfriend Meg.

It was during his summer jobs tree planting north of Thunder Bay that Tyler fell in love with the beauty of the Northern landscape. He thrived in the environment of pure physical work and developed a passion for the forestry industry. He sometimes travelled to Northern BC to complete the tree plant while remaining dedicated to his employer of five years, Haveman Brothers Forestry in Thunder Bay. Tyler earned his spot as a Crew Boss, developed many strong friendships and was loved by all for his spirit, sense of humor and work ethic. Recently, Tyler accepted an apprenticeship and had begun working for Rutter Urban Forestry in Thunder Bay. The company was devasted by the loss of Tyler. They were so impressed by his work and how well he fit with guys on the team.

When at home in Woodstock, Tyler always made time to visit his many friends who loved him. Family was his priority and Tyler did his best to attend every gathering and would go out of his way to show love and support for his family. Most recently, when his Aunt Cynthia was ill and passed away. At home, there was not a job that needed to be done, he would not tackle. Tyler always made time to help.

We are so thankful Tyler had the love and support of his girlfriend Fayth Chambers and her mother Cara, and sister Rachel while he resided in Thunder Bay. Thank you for extending your loving arms and accepting Tyler into your home. Tyler was also blessed for five years to have the love, support and friendship of James and Jana Toppin also of Thunder Bay. He also lovingly raised his dog Hannah and cared for her like a child during the entire time he travelled.

There will be a permanent void in all of our lives, especially Mom (Cathy), Dad (Dennis) and Sisters (Danika and Megan), 2 sets of Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and a closely-knit group of cousins. We love you Tyler, and we are so proud of you. You will always be with us.

Tyler's friends in the tree planting community donated 30 trees to be planted in the Woodstock Memorial Forest. A memorial engraved stone was also sent to place in a location of our choice so that we can visit Tyler and be with him when need be. Tyler's friends and family are reciprocating and sending an engraved stone to Thunder Bay. Rutter Urban Forestry also planted three trees for Tyler in the City of Thunder Bay. A donation was made for more trees to be planted through the Hamilton Watershed where needed and his name added to a tribute sign at Dundas Valley Conservation Area. Tyler's Facebook page will be memorialized, so we welcome you to share your stories, memories and photos of Tyler there. In addition, we will be having a celebration of life for Tyler in the spring with the many friends and family whose lives he touched.
