SEARS, William Lewis "Bill" BSc, P. Eng.
William Lewis "Bill" Sears, BSc, P. Eng. passed away on December 27, 2020, aged 87 years, at his home in Stoney Creek with his loving wife Judy at his side. She was his partner, the love of his life, and his cheerful companion. He is survived by 4 children: Susan of Stoney Creek, Lewis (Susan) of Hamilton, Brenda (Alex) of Toronto, and Cynthia Summers of Burlington; his grandchildren Kirsten, Amanada, Derek, Ryan, Sean, Alex, Samantha and Rebecca; 2 great-grandchildren; his brother Bob (Carol) of Florida, and his sister Marjorie Murphy of Woodstock, ON. Predeceased by his parents Lewis Gregory Sears and Marjorie Alice (nee Graves) and his brother Jim of Woodstock, ON.
Born and raised in "La République du Madawaska" (Edmunston, NB). Bill was a true Renaissance Man, musician, politician, and consulting engineer. After a brief tour with the RCAF followed by a BSc at the University of New Brunswick he came to Ontario and worked in construction and municipal engineering. Named Engineer of the Year in 1986 he had established his practice in 1965. He carried out projects in Canada and elsewhere and volunteered his time with CESO both internationally and in Aboriginal communities here at home. He was a former Mayor of Stoney Creek; where he was in the habit of knocking on doors even in non-election years, and chairman of the Hamilton Wentworth Region. Very proud of his heritage, Bill and Judy visited his native New Brunswick regularly to enjoy the serenity and clean air found there. At home he was an avid gardener and woodworker.
Wherever he is today his friends know that he will be sitting down at the piano to play a tune in the evening, he loved music.
Cremation has taken place and at Bill's request there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Judy would like to thank Dr. Chris Ambis for his caring support. Amica (Stoney Creek), Home Concierge (Toronto) staff, wonderful nurses Clarissa and Rachel from Bayshore Health. To the two people who provided guidance and support during this long journey Anuska Dwyer and Shannon Coffee. And last but not least the love my family, nieces Kim and Sandy who were always by my side; and my sister Lynn who is my rock. Please sign the Tribute Wall at kitchingsteepeandludwig.com
