JENKINS, Elizabeth "Bessie"

February 14, 1928 - October 31, 2021

(93 years old)

Born 1928 in North Wales UK, she was the youngest of 10 children in a blended family. Bessie had many fond memories of Wales and often retuned to visit. After grammar school she entered the workforce and soon discovered her knack for typing and went on to conquer shorthand. Bessie came to Canada in 1957 and settled in Toronto where her brother had a Jewelry shop. She then met her husband and set off to start a family. Bessie had two children, Annie and William. The family moved around quite a bit in the early 70's finally settling in British Columbia. Bessie found a number of passions including X-country skiing, Tennis and bicycling. She became very active with her volunteering including meals on wheels which led to a position with community services as a coordinator for the program. In 1984 her husband passed away and she became a single parent. Bessie took to her new role with the same positive attitude and sense of humor that she was known for. As her kids grew up she kept herself busy with Samma the beagle and her numerous outdoor activities and of course swimming! In 2016 she moved to Woodstock or as she would say "was kidnapped". Bessie lived out her last 5-1/2 years with her daughter Annie and partner Bert, and two cats. Her son William (aka Billy the kidnapper) lived a short walk away and would often spend many hours with his mom doing the things she loved the most. Bessie would add another volunteer position to her resume as she would call members from Southgate seniors Centre on their birthday. Elizabeth will be remembered for her kind manner and love of dogs, her endless stories of Wales and appreciation for all the people that touched her life. She will be dearly missed. A special thank you to the Palliative care ward at the Woodstock Hospital and all the wonderful nurses who cared for her in last weeks and days. Rest In Peace mum.

Love Bill, Ann, Baillie and Bert.
