ARNOTT, Gordon (aka Paul) Alexander

August 5, 1927 - November 17, 2021

Passed away at Woodstock Hospital at age 94 on his 70th wedding anniversary. Beloved husband of Ruthe (Tucker). Predeceased by son Norman Peter James (1969). Loving father to Tom Arnott (Donna), Cathy Hill (Gary), Nancy Briglio (Peter), Marylou Jones (Don), Andrea Arnott, Jennifer Willcock (Mark) and Janice Dawson (Chuck). Will be sadly missed by thirteen grandchildren, Nicole, Brett, Sarah, Chris, Andy, Rachel, Allie, Leah, Julia, Max, Abbey, Ian and Ben. Loved by four great grandchildren, Josh, Lucas, Xavien, Anneka. Son of the late George and Caroline Arnott and predeceased by sister, Helen. Gordon was born and grew up in his beloved Innerkip, where he had many adventures with his friends and played hockey, baseball, and later in life, lawn-bowled and golfed. He is on the Cradle Roll at Innerkip Presbyterian Church where he attended all his life. He served as an Elder of the Board at the church for 37 years. He joined the Canadian Army under the Technical Training Corp (Boy Soldiers) in 1944 at 17. He trained for service but couldn't go overseas until he turned 18. The war ended just as he came of age. Gordon always had great respect and love for the Canadian military. He passionately told his children and grandchildren about the world wars and Canada's participation and instilled that same respect. A life-long learner, Gordon was an avid reader of history and war aircraft. He spent many hours building models of war planes. His love of history spilled over into photography where he captured his family's history in the many photos and films he took over the years, earning him the nickname "Flash Gordon." It was in Innerkip, through a mutual friend, he met his beloved Ruthe. They started a 70-year love affair, raising seven children in the house he built across from Innerkip Public School. Having six daughters, he built them a dollhouse in the backyard where much fun was had by all. Gordon worked for Carter Construction and then later at Standard Tube for 32 years. He also had a printing business, printing tickets for local organizations and events on the printing press in the basement. Gordon was a loyal, devoted, and loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Guests are invited to join the family at Innerkip Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 22, 2021. Visitation will be held from 12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. All those attending must RSVP for both visitation and or service through the Brock & Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock website. If desired, memorial contributions to either the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund or Innerkip Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
