Norma Jean, Hinks-Fleet (née Farrell) (Died)
- Full Text
Born as Norma Jean Farrell more than 96 years ago in Norwich, Jean lived the next 93 years in and around this town. She lived her last three years in Elora and Almonte, near her sons. Jean was a town girl who became a farm-wife and homemaker, a stylish dresser who made most of her own clothes. After her first husband, Robert Hinks died in 1982 Jean took over managing the farm and expanded her intense interest in birding and photography. This led her and her late daughter Kathy to set out on birding expeditions all over Canada and the USA for the next 30 plus years. Jean was a very active member of Norwich Baptist Church her whole life, president of the Mission Circle, and a Deacon. Jean was the last surviving child of the late Archie and Ethel Farrell. Her siblings Erma Lemon, Marjorie Pritchard, Glen, Lloyd, Ken, and Marion Carroll predeceased her, as did her second husband Clifford Fleet. Jean is survived by her sons Tom (Diane Smiley) and David (Elizabeth Veninga) Hinks. Her daughter Kathy Black died in 2021. She is also survived by six grandsons Edward and Jason Black, and Alex, Matthew, Otto and Stuart Hinks, (grandson Peter Black died in 2008) and 12 great- grandchildren: Jasmine, Tyson, Tommy, Maggie, Joe, Will, Rose, Grace, Sam and Sherwin Hinks, and William and Jeremy Black. Family and friends will be received at the Arn-Lockie Funeral Home, 45 Main Street West, Norwich, Ontario, on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 12:00-12:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Arn-Lockie Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at the Norwich Cemetery.
