(nee Gray)
Passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024 at Woodstock Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Oshawa on August 22, 1946, Darlene's journey through life was shared with her beloved husband, Donald Nicholls, until his passing in 2019. They spent 49 years of marriage together filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their children: Wayne (Donna), Jeff (Kim), and Lesley (Eric Vyse). Darlene's legacy continues to flourish through her adored grandchildren Michael, Jesse, Shania, Gunner, Jordan, Christian, Kelly (Scarlett), Gradon (Danielle), Janessa (Leo), and Kristen (Don) as well as many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Maurice and Aletha Gray and her sister Debbie in infancy. Darlene's memory will be cherished and kept alive by all those who loved her.
After retiring from a career in insurance, Darlene spent much of her time volunteering. Darlene was a long-time and active member of St. David's United Church. She found great joy in her involvement with the United Church Women (UCW), where she formed lasting friendships and made a significant impact on her local and global community. She especially enjoyed making shoeboxes during the Christmas season. Her dedication to helping others also extended beyond the walls of the church, as she participated frequently in The Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. In addition to her volunteer service, Darlene had many interests and hobbies that she shared with others like crocheting, knitting, and gardening. She also enjoyed connecting with others while dropping off orders to her "AVON ladies". Darlene will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., (519-539-0004) on Thursday, July 4, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. The memorial service will be held at St. David's United Church, 190 Springbank Ave N, on Friday, July 5 at 11:00 a.m.
If desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. David's United church would be greatly appreciated.
