DEWEERD, Johanna Engelina

On Sunday, March 31, 2024, in her 93rd year, the Lord in his wisdom called home his beloved daughter, Johanna Engelina DeWeerd.

Beloved wife of Tony DeWeerd, to whom she was married for almost 63 years. Dearly missed by her children Henrietta and Arnold Groeneweg, John and Nancy DeWeerd, Dave and Joanne DeWeerd, Carla and John Alblas, and Anita (2022) and Richard Hardman, along with her 17 grandchildren and their spouses, and her 8 great-grandchildren.

Lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters-in-law Burt Bron, Alice DeWeerd, Renske DeWeerd, Maria DeWeerd, and Sidney and Ina VanderHeide. Predeceased by her sisters and their spouses Sophia (Jesse) Timmermans, Baukje (Wytse) Vanderveen, Martha (Harmen) Beintema, and Carla Bron.

Johanna was born in Friesland, the Netherlands in the village of Birdaard, on March 28, 1932. She immigrated to the United States in 1956 with her father and sister, and lived in Outlook, Washington State. She moved to Canada in 1960, where she met her husband Tony. They were married on July 7, 1961 and raised their five children on the family farm near Tavistock, Ontario.

Johanna will be remembered for her servant heart, through which she blessed many others with her selflessness and generous hospitality.

Visitation will be held at Bethel United Reformed Church in Aylmer on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 4-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, at 2:00 p.m., at the church in Aylmer as well, with refreshments to follow.

A private interment will take place with immediate family before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Word and Deed Ministries would be welcomed.
