Barbara Jean Mortimer (Barb)

(n é e Elliott) August 23, 1933 September 9, 2024

Barbara (Barb), cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 9, 2024, at the age of 91.

Born on August 23, 1933 in Ingersoll, Ontario, Barb lived a life filled with grace, kindness, and a profound love for her family. Her strength, courage, and compassion touched the hearts of everyone who knew her, and her legacy of love will continue to live on in her family and friends.

Loving wife to Morris (Mort) Mortimer (predeceased), her soulmate and sweetheart whom she was married to for 51 years. Devoted mother to Chris Doherty (Jamie), Greg Mortimer (Sylvia), Jacqui Denstedt (Steve), and Stephen (predeceased), loving Nanny to Anne Doherty-Fewster (Tim), David Doherty (Kayla), Charlie Mortimer (Agatha), Sammy Mortimer, Sara Denstedt and Lauren Denstedt, and proud GG to Emily, Caeden, Liam and Avalynn. Proud big sister to Elizabeth (Betty) McDermott, Barb cherished her many nieces and nephews. Barb was predeceased by her siblings Grace McCafferty, Verna Wardell, and Bill Elliott and their spouses, and by her parents John and Margaret Elliott. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment with them.

Exceptionally talented at almost anything she did, Barb had a deep passion for gardening, crochet, knitting, baking, and volunteering at Bethany Lutheran Church. Barb is remembered for her willingness to help anyone in need, which left a lasting impact on those around her.

Always putting others before herself, Barbara is remembered for her kindness, generosity and her ability to bring light and comfort into any room. Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A special thanks is given to Dr. Michelle Taylor, Nurse Erika Schneider, PSW Carin, Nurse Practitioner Sara Peterson, and the many other home healthcare and hospice providers who helped care for Barbara during the past three years. Your kindness, expertise, professionalism, and compassion helped Barb to live and die on her own terms, with dignity.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Saturday November 2nd at 1pm at Bethany Lutheran Church, 175 Springbank Ave, Woodstock, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Oxford County https://alzswp.ca/ , Maison McCulloch Hospice https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/ , or to an Out of the Cold Program in your area in Barb's memory.

Barbara's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and her memory will continue to live on in those who loved her.
