t is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard Charles Fallowfield, more affectionately known to those around him as Len. Len quietly slipped away, at PeopleCare, Tavistock, on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the age of 90. A devoted family man, passionate aviator, and cherished member of his community. Leonard's journey came to an end, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and inspiration.
He leaves behind the love of his life, and best friend Ila Fallowfield (nee Roberts) whom he married, June 6, 1953; marking 71 years of marriage. Loving father of Susan (William) Shaw, Michael (Lorraine) Fallowfield, and Shelleigh (Bradley) Garner. Dear grandfather of Angela, Cassandra, Matthew, Drew, Olivia, Cody, Dylan, Mark, Hannah, Jaycee and Marlee. Cherished great-grandfather to Alec, Kyle, Sofia, Hunter, Caydence, Calvin, Grace, Kiara, Kendra, and Wesley. Survived by his brother Wes Fallowfield. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Isabel Fallowfield, and brothers Donald Fallowfield, and Douglas Fallowfield. Fondly remembered by Adam, Angila, Ethan, Lauren, and Aiden, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Born to be a man of faith, Len and his beloved wife Ila were regular attendees at the Church of the Epiphany, where they found strength and support in their faith community. Len's dedication extended beyond the church; he worked tirelessly at Standard Tube for 37 years, where his commitment and work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
In 1976, Len fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning his pilot's license. He took great pride in his part-ownership of a Harvard aircraft and he later purchased an Aeronca Champ, which became a beloved symbol of his passion for flying. Len was a long-time member of the Canadian Harvard Association and an active participant in the Tillsonburg and Woodstock Flying Clubs, Len loved to share the joy of flight, taking many friends and family members on unforgettable journeys through the skies.
Len's greatest pride, however, lay in his family. He inspired two of his grandsons to follow in his footsteps and become pilots themselves, a testament to his enduring influence and love for aviation. He often spoke with pride about the accomplishments of his family, cherishing the moments they shared together.
Len's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Len's legacy is one of kindness; he brought joy to all who knew him.
The family would like to thank, staff at PeopleCare, Tavistock for the exceptional care given to Len.
Guests will be received at Church of the Epiphany, 560 Dundas St, Woodstock, ON, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, between 10 – 11 a.m. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
