Steinman, Gordon (Died)

STEINMAN - Gordon Steinman, 85, of Tavistock passed away in Stratford General Hospital on Wednesday, November 8, 2006. He was born in East Zorra Township, Oxford County on April 7, 1921 a son of the late Moses Steinman and the former Catherine “Kate” Zehr. He was a member of Cassel Mennonite Church; had farmed in Blanford Township until retiring to Tavistock in March of 1980 where he was a member of Tavistock Men’s Club and had enjoyed being “Santa Claus” in the Christmas Parades for many years. Gordon is survived by his wife, the former Audrey Leah Bast, whom he married in East Zorra Township on October 7, 1950; two sons, Rodney and wife Thelma Steinman of R.R. # 3, Brussels; Bradley Steinman and companion Darlene Arsenault of Stratford; one daughter, Donna and husband Roy Callahan of Martinsville, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, Joanna, Luke and Aimee-Joy Steinman; Jason and wife Kayla Callahan; Colleen, Candace and Ryan Callahan; Robert and David Steinman, Curtis and Codie Arsenault; one great granddaughter, Alyssa Callahan; three brothers, Wilfred and wife Vivian Steinman of R.R. # 1 , Bright; Neil and wife Marnie Steinman of Woodstock, Floyd and wife Catherine Steinman of Tavistock; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Laurene and Edward Zehr, Patricia Bast, Mary Ellen and John “Jack” Ruby, Phyllis Lichti, Sharon and Donald Gingerich. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law,Esther Steinman and his brother-in-law, Glen Bast. Relatives and friends will be recieved in FRANCIS FUNERAL HOME, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Cassel Mennonite Church, R.R. #1, Tavistock on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. The Rev. James Whitehead will officiate. Interment in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th line.
