ROUTLY - William (Bill) Samuel, of Woodstock and formerly of Bright, on Saturday January 19, 2008 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Lucille (nee McKay) for over 61 years. Dear father of Ron and his wife Lynn of Innerkip. Proud grandfather of Michael and his wife Kiersten of Innerkip and great grandfather (GP) of Alyssa and Kayla. Predeceased by his parents Guy and Gladys Routly, brother Jim and wife Audrey, sister Margaret, sister-in-law Muriel McKay, and brothers-in-law Don McKay, Adam McKay and wife Josephine. Survived by his sister-in-law Ina McKay. Also remembered by his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great niece and nephews. Bill served during WWII with the R.C.A.F. and the Canadian Army. He joined the Oxford Rifles in Woodstock and was twice wounded in action while serving with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Italy. He was a long time member of Oak Branch Masonic Lodge No. 261 Innerkip and Plattsville No. 178 A.F. & A.M., a Past Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of Canada, and a member of the Mocha Shriners, London and Shriners Clown Unit. Member of the local Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55 Woodstock and Central United Church. He was a retired Inspector and Supervisor with the Canadian Government Federal Department of Agriculture. Bill was well known locally for his many years of involvement in sports and minor sports. Friends will be received at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. under the auspices of Oak Branch Masonic Lodge No. 261 Innerkip. Funeral service will be held in the Smith-LeRoy chapel on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carmen Holbrough officiating. Interment later at Chesterfield Cemetery.
