SMITH - It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Joanne Smith of Burgessville announces her passing on Sunday, January 27, 2008 in her 60th year. Pat's death at home surrounded by her family follows a short battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Barry for 39 years. Cherished mother of Michelle (Bill) Urchik of Pendleton, NY and Julie of Scarborough. Devoted grandmother of Megan and Katie Urchik. Pat is also survived by her mother Jean McClintock of Burgessville, sister Peg (Joe) Bradford of Flin Flon MB, father-in-law Grant (Myrna) Smith of Burgessville, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Elaine and Al Hagerman of Waterford and Wayne and Laura Smith of King City, and several nieces and nephews scattered throughout North America. She has been reunited in heaven with her father Mike and mother-in-law Ruth and we have no doubt they will enjoy eternal great cooking and enormous laughter. Pat leaves behind a legacy of caring for her community that includes her time as a teacher, softball player, coach and organizer, leader with Girl Guides, 15 years on the Oxford County and Thames Valley Boards of Education, Chair of the Ontario Rural Council, and involvement in establishing the Oxford Community Foundation. Pat never hesitated to take on a challenge or help a worthy cause. Pat has been an involved member of Burgessville Baptist Church, Norwich Curling Club and political parties who have shared her vision and common sense. Friends will be received at THE ARN-LOCKIE FUNERAL HOME, 45 Main St. W., Norwich (519) 863-3020, on Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Pat's life will be held at Burgessville Baptist Church on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors John Rose and John Caswell officiating. Spring interment Burgessville Baptist Cemetery.
