SCHMIDT, Alberta A. - It is with deep sadness in my heart and with many long cherished memories that I announce the passing of my mother, Alberta Annie Schmidt in her 94th year. Bert passed away peacefully at the Maples Home for Seniors in Tavisock on Saturday, March 22, 2008 where she lived for the past four years after living ninety years at the family home her father built at 48 Fuhr Street in Tavistock, Bert worked for fifty years at the J.G. Field Woollen Mill in Tavistock where she had missed only two days of work during that time, to bury her mother and her father. She was a member of the St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tavistock. In her younger years she loved to drive to all the dances in Stratford at the Lakeside Casino and to Woodstock in her Dad’s Model T Ford with her dear friends Beulah Keutsch and Marie Woelfle or her sisters, Anita and Helen. She enjoyed picking up boys in uniform who were hitch-hiking. They would ride on the running boards and be dropped off at the dances. She loved to have the latest model car every few years. In early retirement she travelled to Germany, Hawaii, Italy, Alberta, Vancouver and Alaska. In later retirement years she just enjoyed sleeping in, watching the “Price is Right”, a Blue Jays game or a good old love story on television. She was born in Tavistock on December 5, 1914 a daughter of the late Henry H. and Minnie (Wilker) Schmidt. Mourning her is cherished daughter Judy Dunbar (nee Ross) and husband Steve; Jo-Jeff and Chelsea; beloved sisters Anita McCully of Markham, Helen Ross of Stratford; brother Harry and wife Nancy Schmidt of Guelph. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews including special nephew, George McCully and special nieces, Betty Stere and Jean Stere. Predeceased by close friend of forty-four years, George Schram 1995; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Laura Schmidt and brothers-in-law Lloyd McCully and Robert Ross. There will be no funeral home visitation. A private family funeral service will be held in the FRANCIS FUNERAL HOME, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. The Rev. Daniel Kitsch will officiate. Interment in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Tavistock at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Brain Tumor Foundation or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home by calling 519-655-2431.
